Things that Stop you from Losing Weight

By Sheila Burks

If you're having difficulty losing weight, there are many possible reasons for this. For some people, it's a simple matter of will power. It could also be the wrong diet or exercise program. For some people, a medical issue could be playing a role. Here are some common factors that prevent many from losing weight. Progress is much easier if you can identify factors that could be preventing your weight loss.

If you want to lose weight, you must know the importance of the timing of your meals as well as the quality and quantity of the food that you eat. One mistake that most dieters make is to skip breakfast, thinking that it is the best way to cut back on calories. It is highly recommended to eat a large meal during breakfast to eliminate craving later in the day. Also, it is not advisable to eat late in the evening. The later in the day you eat, the harder it will be to burn off those calories, so avoid eating meals within three hours of going to bed.

It is recommended to eat a larger breakfast and steadily decrease the food that you eat as the day progresses.

If you are on a diet characterized by frequent snacking, you will find that weight loss results are slow, if not entirely absent, although you may pay as much attention to it as necessary. Even when you watch the number of calories consumed with each meal, you will still add up on the calories when you continuously munch on snacks like chips, donuts and cookies such that you will still encounter difficulties with losing weight. Unfortunately, our bodies absorb everything that enters the mouth and the stomach such that counting the calories for all food consumed including the snacks must be done. The good news is that this fattening snack habit can be changed into a healthy one simply by placing better alternatives like vegetable sticks, fruit salads and low-fat yogurt within your reach instead of the usual cookies, chips and cakes.

Some cases of weight loss failure are caused by the counteracting effect of an underlying medical condition instead of the lack or absence of the willingness to follow through with the weight loss plan. One such problem is called Syndrome X, which has to do with insulin resistance, something that as many as 1 in 5 people might suffer from. If you have a strong sweet tooth as manifested by your love for sugar- and carbohydrate-filled foods, you may well have Syndrome X. You may have Syndrome X when your symptoms include lack of energy, excess body fat located in the middle, neck and face as well as frequent feelings of being bloated. Seek medical opinion immediately if you suspect that Syndrome X may be wreaking havoc with your body lest health complications like high blood pressure and heart disease develop.

There can be a number of reasons as to why you're having difficulties in dropping pounds, and we've only discussed a few of them here. At times, it is necessary for you to be pushy and willing to test out different tactics. If you have a sneaking suspicion that a medical issue might be your difficulty, talk to your physician and get tested for possible issues, such as a thyroid disorder. You can learn about an option for shedding weight, upon identifying the impediments in your way.
